For all those open-air swimming fans: What a glorious openingĀ for the newly refurbished sea-water pool at Penzance. See great pictures in the local press, here. Not one of ours, but spotted in a press release and makes you want to reach for the suncream; worth a visit while the sun shines, methinks.

What have we here then? Recently uncovered beneath the floor slab of a conservatory, removed to make way for a single-storey extension, this well is of neat brick construction with a narrow neck bellying out to about 1m across, and extending to about 3m deep. Obviously still collecting water, albeit pretty silty at the moment, our clients are considering: should it stay or should it go? It could be simply capped and left underneath the floor, or the brickwork tidied [...]

When properly applied, one of the strengths of a sound planning system is its focus on sustainable community, guarding against the negative impact on the city centre as well as an increase in car-reliant traffic movements; specific concerns referred to by the Secretary of State in this appeal case.
