There has been much progress on several of our projects recently. One modest extension in Exeter, where Foxfords Construction are doing an excellent job, approaches completion. Two other domestic projects, one an extension and one an internal re-modelling, commence on site directly managed by the client from our design drawings. In Sidmouth our total refurbishment and extension of a 1950s chalet-bungalow has commenced in earnest with much of the demolition work has taken place in the [...]

A practice first: We were very pleased to hear that our little toilet built for Clyst Honiton Church last year has been twinned – with a toilet in Kanombe Village, Muramba, Uganda. The parish is ‘helping flush away poverty’, raising funds to support water and sanitation work and providing basic essentials.

It’s been a busy start to the year; it says something that it’s taken us two months to find the time to say so. So far we have submitted two planning applications while receiving consent for five projects and work towards submitting a further four. We have three projects in the process of being considered for building regulations consent or about to be. Meanwhile two projects are currently out to tender while we are working on three others that shortly [...]

We continue to work with Park Life to develop their proposals for a new community hub and cafe in Heavitree Pleasure Grounds. Currently discussing funding routes, exploring possible locations and drafting concept sketch proposals. Keep up to date with all that’s going on there at their website and see when their next event is, including where their coffee van will be next!
We’ve recently submitted planning applications for a new daycare nursery, as well as a house extension and [...]

… to make an omelette. Work progresses on our site in Lympstone, remodelling and refurbishing almost every room of this home and extending into the loft space. We will be re-building the walls to the bathroom, for a little privacy, in due course but first existing finishes are stripped out to allow floors and roofs to be strengthened, insulation to be added, and services to be threaded through the existing structure. Careful planning of the works has taken place to [...]

What have we here then? Recently uncovered beneath the floor slab of a conservatory, removed to make way for a single-storey extension, this well is of neat brick construction with a narrow neck bellying out to about 1m across, and extending to about 3m deep. Obviously still collecting water, albeit pretty silty at the moment, our clients are considering: should it stay or should it go? It could be simply capped and left underneath the floor, or the brickwork tidied [...]

This week work starts on a ground floor side and rear extension for one of our projects very close to home here in Pinhoe. The project replaces an existing garage and conservatory to increase living spaces and enlarge the kitchen as well as to provide a spare bedroom. The new living spaces will have a wide south-facing view over the garden connecting this much more openly to the house, and more fluidly to each other.
The extension will be built of [...]

We’ve been out to Clyst Honiton Church today to sign off their new outside toilet. We were asked to help out with designing and gaining consent for these works which, despite their modest nature and size, required careful negotiation with EDDC’s Heritage officers – after all, it is in the setting of the Listed church. One of our most modest projects but so much appreciated by all those who for so long have crossed their legs through a service or [...]

Huge thanks to dancing badger for taking such care crafting our shiny new website. This will allow us to be much more fluid with our news and project info, and photos in particular. Hope you enjoy browsing. We’ll be adding more projects and photos over the coming weeks, and of course, much more news and and some random stuff we hope you’ll like.

The skeletal form of the original barn frame, silhouetted against the Devon skies. The cladding has been stripped in preparation for repair works to the frame, leading up to the installation of the timber frame that will form the conversion to a new dwelling. We are helping create a four-bedroom home at this site in Devon. The trades will be let as separate packages to allow the client to control progress, with the first key milestone being completion of the [...]
