Following closure of the bank and remaining empty for some time, the new owner took on the redevelopment of this prominent town-centre site to create a commercial space on the ground floor (now an Italian restaurant) and a two-storey maisonette on the upper levels, for his family. Given that the site is Listed, the project required careful handling of the remodelling to retain heritage features and limit the impact on the historical setting and fabric.
Careful rationalisation of the plan enabled minimal structural changes and the incoporation of the roof space into lofty top floor bedrooms, extending what was originally the bank manager’s accommodation. The bank retains its proportions and frontage along with the original safe.
