51 Langaton Lane: kitchen extension
Services provided: full architectural design services
Completion: April 2011
Our brief here was to open up the cellular plan of a solid 1930’s semi-detached house into a flexible open-plan living space. An internal spine wall and most of the rear wall of the house have been removed without affecting the two storeys above. We have added an extension whose wide folding doors open directly onto the garden and with rooflights bring light deep into the combined living/dining/kitchen space.
Underfloor heating has been fitted throughout under the new engineered oak flooring; this adds to the spatial flexibility by removing radiators from the walls.
The client’s own confidence with internal finishes and fittings is reflected in the quality of the build, which they managed themselves.
