This month saw the completion of a bright and spacious extension in Pennsylvania, Exeter, creating an open-plan kitchen/dining room in this lovely family home. The kitchen replaced a conservatory in a little courtyard space at the back of the house, and was back-to-back with a similar project we completed next door a few years before. Here, alternative thinking to move the kitchen from its original space meant that some significant structural modifications, and therefore cost, were avoided, and the disruption to the client’s use of the kitchen during construction was minimised. The major aspect of the new space is the light flooding in from a flat-glass rooflight, with almost invisible framing, which fills the kitchen with light and stops the adjacent living room feeling like its light and rear views have been stolen. Another project completed well by Callard & Sons.
