We have returned from Malawi in time for two more projects to commence on site here, closer to home. Firstly, a sunny garden room extension complete with triple-glazed roof lantern on a Listed Building in Topsham, careful insertions and incisions to give more generous living accommodation and to bring light deep into the internal spaces. This was originally commissioned by the owner/occupier of the house who subsequently sold; however the project was picked up by the new owner and taken [...]

This month saw us, in conjunction with Avalon Planning, submit for Planning Permission our plans for Park Life‘s cafe in Heavitree Pleasure Grounds. The project has garnered widespread support through its gestation period and we look forward to a fruitful discussion with the planners. Decision due in June.

We’ve had another busy year full of exciting projects including building on previous ‘firsts’ for the office. Following on from the completion last year of a new loo for Clyst Honiton Church, we are currently building one in Honiton Baptist Church, have design similar for Pinhoe Church Office, and are discussing initial briefs for re-ordering Rockbeare Church to include flexible community spaces, a kitchen and… another loo. It seems we are getting a reputation for Church washrooms! Most recently, home [...]

We are pleased to have developed designs at Heavitree Pleasure Ground to an outline design stage for further consultation with the public and planners. These will go on display at one of Park Life‘s regular social events, this weekend’s Big Lunch in the park on Sunday 11th, 12.00-3.00. The event is a family picnic and social and will feature display boards of the scheme designs, asking local people for feedback and further thoughts on the project. We aim to [...]

We’ve now completed our presentation drawings that we hope will go a little way to explaining the aspirations of the Trust, at their open evening this coming Friday March 17th. These animations and drawings illustrate the existing four classrooms built on previous visits, and the complete proposed works to build a further seven classrooms and two rooms for teacher’s accommodation, which it is hoped to complete in a visit in the spring of 2018. Please come along to the [...]

It’s been a busy start to the year; it says something that it’s taken us two months to find the time to say so. So far we have submitted two planning applications while receiving consent for five projects and work towards submitting a further four. We have three projects in the process of being considered for building regulations consent or about to be. Meanwhile two projects are currently out to tender while we are working on three others that shortly [...]

This week we received Planning Consent on two more projects in the local area. Firstly, a dynamic side extension to a home in Stoke Hill, which replaces existing outbuildings and makes good use of the falling ground levels to create a spacious vibrant living space. Secondly, and after much debate, proposals to extend a Listed property in Topsham. The subject of much negotiation, this project has required careful consideration of the most appropriate ways of working with the heritage asset. [...]

We continue to work with Park Life to develop their proposals for a new community hub and cafe in Heavitree Pleasure Grounds. Currently discussing funding routes, exploring possible locations and drafting concept sketch proposals. Keep up to date with all that’s going on there at their website and see when their next event is, including where their coffee van will be next!
We’ve recently submitted planning applications for a new daycare nursery, as well as a house extension and [...]

We’ve recently been appointed to design a new community hub and cafe in Heavitree Pleasure Ground. A lovely little project for a lively and involved community. Here’s a sneak preview of some of the ideas submitted with our proposal, although the design process will all start from scratch hand in hand with a detailed development discussion with the client group.

This is an example of a typical discussion that might be had at the first meeting between ourselves and a new client. We’re exploring spatial relationships, examining possible planning restrictions, gauging the style and extent of the work that might be appropriate. This recent page is exploring ideas for a rear extension, and a loft conversion, and possibly a garage conversion or re-build too – all at the same time and in particular their inter-relationship. There’s about four options for [...]
